Schools/feeder schools-Students in Wood River attend Wood River Rural Schools, Wood River Middle/High School, Wood River Elementary School and Alda Elementary School. Students attend the elementary school through fifth grade. Students in sixth to eighth grade attend the middle school at the high school. Students in grade ninth to 12th attend the high school.
Law enforcement-The Hall County Sheriff's Department handles law enforcement for the city of Wood River.

Other recreational sites-The Wood River ball fields, used for softball and pony leagues, are located on the northeast corner of town. A tennis court is located at the park south of the ball park. Two basketball courts are available, one is located at the southwest corner of the ball park, and one is at the new water tower park in south Wood River.
