Tornado Hill a high G.I. point

One of the Grand Island's biggest landmarks is Tornado Hill, located within the boundaries of Ryder Park in west-central Grand Island. It is actually an artificial hill created to cover debris left behind by the June 3, 1980 tornadoes.

The official name of Tornado Hill is "Memory Fun-nel Mountain," chosen by the city council following a contest among school children to name the hill.

But by the time the name was chosen, most people around the city had already taken to calling the landmark Tornado Hill.

The hill is especially popular among kids for sledding after a nice snowfall.
