Grand Island has a paid city fire department with four fire stations staffed around the clock. Each station has an engine company, and one is staffed with a ladder company.
A new fire station is being built at 409 E. Fonner Park Road and will open this summer. It will replace the current Fire Station No. 1 at Pine and Koenig streets.
Outside the city limits, fire service is provided by the Grand Island Rural Fire Department.
The city also provides emergency medical service for Grand Island and Hall County. The four city fire stations have firefighter/paramedic treatment and/or transport capabilities to provide advanced life support.
Rural/Metro Medical Services is a private company located in Hastings that also serves Grand Island with a full- staffed paramedic ambulance service. A patient requiring transport can ask for service from Rural/Metro.
Midwest Medical Transport Company provides local and long-distance emergency and non-emergency transports in Grand Island and statewide. The company has offices in Lincoln, Columbus, Fremont and Grand Island.
