Records fell last year for both corn and soybean yields in Hall County, according to recent figures released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Hall County had its highest average corn yield on record with 192.8 bushels per acre. That figure was the second best in the state behind Phelps County, located just southwest of Kearney, which had an average corn yield of 193.8 bushels per acre.

Farmers last year in Hall County planted 184,200 acres of corn, with 175,100 acres being planted on irrigated ground.

Total county corn production was 35.52 million bushels, which is also the best on record.

Irrigated acres accounted for an average yield of 198.5 bushels per acre, and non-irrigated acres had an average yield of 83 bushels per acre.

Previous highest average yield and total corn production in Hall County were in 2003 with 184.1 bushels per acre and 34.6 million bushels.

Average soybean yield in Hall County for 2004 was an all-time best at 53 bushels per acre. The previous best was in 2001 with 52.2 bushels per acre.

Of the 38,700 acres of soybeans planted in Hall County last year, 34,400 acres were irrigated. Irrigated yields were 57 bushels per acre, with non-irrigated ground at 24 bushels per acre.
