Following is a list of Heartland United Way supported agencies serving Hall, Hamilton, Howard and Merrick counties.

The Heartland United Way is located at 410 West Second and can be reached at 382-2675.

Adult Basic Education -- 410 W. Second; contact Penny Holloway at 398-7433. Offers adult literacy, GED, ESL citizenship and workplace education classes to enhance literacy.

American Red Cross -- 404 E. Third; contact Donna Titman at 382-3790. Provides emergency military communications and emergency disaster relief. Offers business and community education in CPR, First Aid, Water Safety and Emergency Preparedness. Collects daily volunteer blood donations.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters -- 505 W. Second; contact Gary Gilbert at 384-3456. Provides children in need with a positive role model and support system. Children are matched one-to-one with caring Big Brother, Big Sister or couple.

Boy Scouts of America, Overland Trails Council -- 2808 O'Flannagan; contact Dave Plond at 382-3717. A comprehensive youth program for boys and young adults aimed at serving others by helping instill the qualities of good character, responsibility, citizenship and personal fitness.

Central Nebraska Community Services -- 2525 W. Old Lincoln Hwy. and 803 F Street. Contact Cheryl Holcomb at 385-5500. Provides assistance to families in crisis, linkage to resources, advocacy for services, financial counseling and goal planning; designed to be a bridge where barriers exist, through case management and other support services. Assists families, single persons, couples and the elderly.

Central Nebraska Council on Alcoholism -- 219 W. Second; contact Connie Cosgrove at 385-5520. Increases the community's awareness of the harmful effects of alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and addictions together with their related problems.

Child Care Solutions -- 1135 South Locust; contact Roxanne Vipond at 385-5182. Resource and referral agency that helps parents find quality childcare and gives parenting information. Childcare providers and parents receive education on child development in both English and Spanish.

Citizen Advocacy -- 1300 S. Locust, Suite F; contact Diane Haney at 385-5542. Initiates and supports long-term, one-to-one advocacy relationships between private citizens and people who have disabilities.

Crisis Center -- 2251 North Webb Road; contact Shellie Pointer at 382-8250. Provides shelter and support for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault along with community education, Crisis Hot line and support groups.

Girl Scouts Goldenrod Council -- 2512 N. Webb Road; contact Laurie Dethloff at 382-2020. Provides programs for girls with activities focusing on arts, out-of doors, health, understanding cultures and science. The program teaches living skills that reinforce a code of ethics, leadership skills and service to the community.

Heartland Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) -- 410 W. Second, Suite 4; contact Diann Muhlbach at 385-5125. Advocated for children in the court system who have been abused or neglected. CASA recruits, screens, trains and supervises volunteers to serve as voices for children.

Hope Harbor -- 610 W. Division; contact Cindi Preisendorf at 385-5190. Provides a centralized service system for emergency and transitional housing, meals, transportation, case management support and advocacy for displaced, homeless, near-homeless and other persons in need with the goal of assisting clients in becoming sustainable and self-sufficient.

Lutheran Family Services -- Interfaith Immigration Services, 410 W. Second Street, Suite 7; contact Rosa Barrios at 382-4255. Provides quality, affordable immigration legal services delivered by bi-lingual (English/Spanish) speaking staff.

Senior Citizen Industries/Adult Day Care -- 304 E. Third; contact Lois Steinike at 385-5308. An alternative for caregivers needing respite time or the opportunity to pursue a career, thus enabling the older family members to remain at home.

Third City Community Clinic -- 1137 South Locust (1107 N. Broadwell as of Aug. 1, 2005); contact Susan Aguilar at 398-5312. Provides a temporary solution to health-care needs for low-income individuals who qualify for services.

YMCA -- 221 E. South Front; contact Kirk Alexander at 384-8181. Offers multi-purpose programs for individuals and families, which focus on physical fitness, family values and community service.

YWCA -- 211 E. Fonner Park Road; contact Leigh Lillibridge at 384-9922. Provides necessary programs and services to individuals such as: quality childcare through our Child Care Program and the Almost Home school aged care program. Educational programs include: Live Yers Preschool and Youth Services educational classes such as Ywarp, Wise Guys, All-Stars, and Babysitting to youth ages 11-18. Adult Development and Fitness Programs are offered to empower women and families.
